ongsi in English: what it is, who it is for, and what it costs
ongsi (অংশী) is a browser-based app for Bangladeshi business owners. It keeps sales, purchases, stock, expenses and customer credit (baki) in one place, includes a barcode-scanning POS, and lets you open your own online store with no sales commission. The interface is in Bangla only. It needs an internet connection and no installation. A limited number of businesses can use it free through 31 December 2026.
What ongsi does
- Sales, purchases and expenses, with profit and loss reports
- Stock that rises when you buy and falls when you sell, with low-stock alerts and size, colour or model variants
- Customer credit (baki): record credit sales and repayments per customer, preview a reminder, then choose WhatsApp or direct SMS to send it. Direct SMS requires the SMS service to be enabled
- A supershop-style sales counter for your local shop: scan barcodes with a USB or Bluetooth scanner or your phone camera, issue receipts, and update stock as sales are recorded
- Your own online store with product photos, prices, orders, WhatsApp and call buttons, and a QR code
- Filling in forms by speaking Bangla
- Downloads of lists and reports as PDF or CSV
Who it is for
Small and mid-sized shops, grocery stores, and sellers who take orders through Facebook or WhatsApp, anywhere in Bangladesh. You can use it only for bookkeeping; the online store is optional.

Limits to know about
The app interface is in Bangla only; there is no English interface. It runs in a web browser, so there is no separate app to install, and it does not work offline. ongsi does not take payments from your buyers, so it is not a payment gateway. If a monthly fee is overdue, the account becomes view-only until it is paid.

Does ongsi work with barcode scanners?
Yes. The POS works with ordinary USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners that send codes like a keyboard. You can also use your phone camera after allowing camera access in the browser. Try camera scanning on your phone and browser before relying on it.
